Barr proposes health care billFrom: Marilyn Ringst (marilyncnm@hotmail.com)Fri Mar 8 17:10:10 2002
Here you go Art, Bob Barr to your rescue. And to think, I just retired all my “Boot Barr” buttons since we finally got him redistricted out of Rome. * * * * Barr proposes health care bill Doctors could see bargaining power boost Friday, March 8, 2002 Washington --- A Georgia congressman is teaming up with an unlikely ally to help the nation's doctors stand up to managed care organizations. Rep. Bob Barr (R-Ga.), one of the most outspoken conservative members of the House, and Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), one of the most liberal members of Congress, introduced legislation Thursday that would allow doctors to negotiate issues such as cost and patient care with managed care organizations. The legislation would allow doctors to offer better care to their patients, Barr said.. .The proposed Health Care Improvements Act of 2002 would allow doctors to collectively negotiate contractual terms and plan policies with a health care plan. Right now, such discussions can violate federal antitrust laws. Regulations forbid entities in the same industry from collectively discussing issues such as price or level of care. Under the proposed legislation, doctors could have these conversations if quality of health care were a factor in the discussion. http://www.accessatlanta.com/ajc/epaper/editions/today/news_c38876ede0cd01e21052.html

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
