Re: heads up- malpractice insurance: for the last timeFrom: Marilyn Ringst (marilyncnm@hotmail.com)Sun Jan 27 17:39:33 2002
I was going to send these refs to Gerald privately- but seems others would be interested, if the bad practitioners aren't weeded out, everyone pays. ** A small percentage of doctors is responsible for a large percentage of medical malpractice expenses. Less than 2% of all physicians practicing in Cook County were defendants in 36% of the medical negligence litigation filed from 1972 to 1986. (Natalie Miller et al., Medical Malpractice: Crisis of Litigation or Crisis of Negligence? (Health Resources, Inc., March 18, 1987) Less than 4% of the physicians practicing in Florida in 1986 were responsible for approximately 45% of paid claims to injured victims.(Testimony of Blaine F. Nye from Pubic Meeting entitled Academic Task Force for the Review of the Insurance and Tort Systems, at 169 (June 11, 1967). *** Also of interest: Few licensing boards conduct criminal background checks http://www.ama-assn.org/sci-pubs/amnews/pick_01/prsa1105.htm

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
