Re: fe injections - in pregnancy - or transfusion - your choice?From: Steve & Eryl Raymond (eryl@intekom.co.za)Sun Jul 29 04:30:07 2001
Is she pregnant and what age is she? Why is she anaemic? Don't you think a haematologist should see her? What if she gets subacute combined degeneration of the cord from B12 deficiency which you mask with iron therapy and folate. I've always understood that parenteral iron should be reserved for those who absolutely cannot tolerate oral because you get no increased rise in haematocrit and considerable danger from allergy.. And blood trabsfusion is only for those times when you can't wait for six weeks for the Hb to rise. Absolutely yes, increase the oral therapy but get her to a haematologist. stray mark decker wrote:

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
