ACOG's Site And My Problems With Not Being Able To Get In ...From: Dean Huffman (perinatl@eudoramail.com)Wed Jul 18 12:10:01 2001
.. I have previously posted some notes asking whether or not anybody else is having trouble with ACOG's web site. I talked with Mark Graves on the phone today and we resolved the problem. It seems that a program I am running, NetMedic, was sending probes to port number 20 and that ACOG's firewall was recently modified to block, for a period of time, any IP address that probes a non-standard port, such as 20. It make sense for a firewall to block probes to non-standard ports. And since he had no way of knowing why there was a probe at port 20, it also seemed logical to block ALL traffic from that IP address, at least for a short period of time. Each time I tried to log on to the ACOG site, NetMedic would get there before my browser go there, and I would be blocked. I could change my internet connection to a different IP address with my same ISP, or could log on to a different ISP with a new IP address, but NetMedic would still get to the ACOG site under the new IP address, and still cause ACOG to block web browser activity from my new IP address. Mark will be talking to the NetMedic people about this. It may be that he will modify the firewall to block probes to port 20, but not block the entire IP address so that the browser will still work. Or he might come up with some other solution. NetMedic is a nice program. It tells me the speed of my internet connection and tells me, at any given time, how fast the packets are going. If I log into the internet and find that packets are going at, say, 20 k bits per second, then I know that it might be worthwhile for me to try a new internet connection since it might be faster. As best I can tell, NetMedic has never blocked me from any other site, and had not blocked me from ACOG until the past few weeks. But until Marc modifies his firewall, I will not use NetMedic when trying to access <http://www.acog.com>.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
