OCP's and Anticardiolipin antibodiesFrom: Anna Meenan, MD (annam@uic.edu)Sat Jul 7 12:49:35 2001
18 y.o young woman in my office yesterday for refill on OCP's. Been on 'em a coupla years with no problems. Takes Desogen because she also has acne and it helps that. In the past year developed Reynaud's and was seen elsewhere. Positive family history of Lupus so they tested her for that. Don't have the results but she says they told her she doesn't have lupus but she is anticardiolipin positive. Should she continue to take OCP's? She says the doctor who saw her said it would not be a problem. Should I switch her to a 1st-generation progesterone even though her acne will probably get worse?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
