Re: LAVH - was: GYN: LSH vs. LAVHFrom: Garry Siegel (garrys@mindspring.com)Thu May 31 20:07:51 2001
My medline search wasn't helpful in terms of my original question--has anyone studies the purported benefits of a laparoscopic supracervical hyst (LSH)versus a LAVH. Dan, I do morcellate on TVH, or LAVH. If the uterus is big, and doesn't descend well, I enjoy securing the IPs or disconnecting the adnexa from above. Today, with a 12 ish week sized uterus, I secured the uterine vessels from above, amputated the fundus (just like a TAH for big fibroids), and used a power morecellator to get it out (Alternatively, I could have left the fundus in the pelvis, gone below and taken out the cervix in two bites/side, and then morcellated the uterus). It was my first useage of the power morcellator, and it is cool. FWIW, one the uterus is 12 weeks or more, I'm a bit reluctant to do a straight TVH/morcellation. I'm sure that others are bolder, or more timid. Garry

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
