I think the "INVESTIGATIONAL" labeling is required by the state of New York, but since reference laboratories take samples from many states, including New York, it puts the notification on every report. This is sort of like the way many food products have (or at least in the past they had) a comment about being approved by the "Penna Dept Agriculture". That statement was required in Pennsylvania in the past, so regional and national distributors, who sold products in Pennsylvania, put the comment on every product, irrespective of where sold.

labcorp says something to the effect of "investigational use only" on it.
Clearly serum screening has advanced beyond "investigational use" - it is
the standard of care to offer it in this country. I have always wondered
why that label persists and perhaps patent issues are part of that equation.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
