Can't comment much on this because I know Yvonne, except I will say that the state of Illinois is fairly backwards when it comes to dealing with Certified Professional Midwives and if there was licensing in place and they were allowed to practice openly it is possible that consultation for complicated births would be more readily obtained. (Though I don't know if that was the problem in this case). Driving homebirth folks underground as criminals is not the answer.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
