Libido

I have an 80 yo widowed female who has been sexually inactive for over 20 years. She is not on HRT and takes no other medications. She has been having problems controlling sexual thoughts and is worried that something may be wrong with her. This is completely ruining her quality of life. Having a sexual relationship outside of a marital relationship or masturbation are completely unacceptable to her because of religious reasons. She has no virilizing signs, but I ordered testosterone and estradiol levels, to be sure she had no identifiable endocrinopathy. Of course they were normal. She is becoming quite desparate for help and is even asking for me to take out her ovaries, if that would help. I think she got that idea from a recent local case where a child molester had himself castrated to avoid a long prison term. Any ideas on further W/U or treatment options?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
