Abortion Clinic Doctor SentencedFrom: Dean Huffman (jth@springnet1.com)Tue May 8 15:51:13 2001
.. Abortion clinic doctor sentenced PHOENIX (AP) - A doctor was sentenced Friday to five years in prison for the death of a patient whose uterus ruptured during an abortion. Dr. John Biskind, 75, was found guilty of manslaughter in February in the 1998 death of LouAnne Herron, who bled heavily after her uterus was punctured by a medical instrument. Carol Stuart-Schadoff, administrator of the now-closed A-Z Women's Center, was sentenced to four years probation and 500 hours of community service for the lesser charge of negligent homicide. Prosecutors said Biskind and Stuart-Schadoff did not care for Herron adequately and that no doctors or registered nurses remained at the clinic to monitor her. They also argued that Biskind and Stuart-Schadoff ignored sonograms that showed Herron's pregnancy was too advanced to be terminated. Biskind denied he had manipulated ultrasound tests.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
