The rate of endometrial cancer occurance among tamoxifen users who were administered 20 mg/day in the U.S. National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project was 1.6 per 1000 patient years, compared with 0.2 per 1000 patient years among control patients taking placebo. The stage, grade, histology, or biology of tumors that develop in tamoxifen users was no different from those that arise in the control population.

On the basis of these data, monitoring patients regularly would be more appropriate than performing prophylactic hysterectomy.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
