Re: Legal system defining...longFrom: Griffiths Malcolm (Malcolm.Griffiths@ldh-tr.anglox.nhs.uk)Tue Apr 24 05:13:40 2001
Work in the NHS! In a legal system which doesn't have juries for negligence cases and where the experts are only credible if they are jobbing doctors with relevant experience and clinical practice. I don't have a Porsche. I have a TVR Griffith - rather like the idea of a British built sports car with (almost) my name on the boot (=trunk)! -----Original Message----- From: RModugno@aol.com [mailto:RModugno@aol.com] Sent: 22 April 2001 23:35 To: Multiple recipients of list OB-GYN-L Subject: Re: Legal system defining...long In a message dated 4/22/01 1:07:21 PM Eastern Daylight Time, DoctorJoe@aol.com writes: True... In the "good old days", it was a matter of "If you build it, they will come." You put yourself through med school and internship and maybe residency, hung out a shingle, and you had business and respect and a comfy life (after being in virtual prison during school and training -- some places, remember, didn't allow you to be married, leave the hospital for days, etc, etc). So what was wrong with being "rich" later anyway -- you put in a hell of a lot of dues... Medicine was a PROFESSION and you were a PROFESSIONAL. NOW, however, there is competition for patients (no guaranteed money), lots of debt to pay off (more expensive schools, family to support DURING school, etc, etc), no respect (e.g. plaintiff's lawyer, no-pay patient, etc) -- all of which lead to POVERTY if you don't fight like hell as a BUSINESS to keep your head above water. So what happens? You become the "provider" and they become the "consumer" and THAT'S where we are now... Joe P. So please, all you non- US docs - tell us your secrets and turn us from our evil ways -does this mean I should resign from the country club and sell the Porsche? The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
