I've enjoyed this whole thread, and I'm coming in a bit late.

Whoever pointed out that what we do is art and science is, of course, correct. Induction for macrosomia doesn't work, says the science; the art is that if you have a patient with a favorable cervix near term, and you choose to induce, you hopefully have the clinical acumen to apply the art of medicine to make a decision. In this case, you have a feeling that an induction will be successful, easy, and convnenient--and if you are skilled at what you do, you'll be right.

Inducing primigravidas or VBACs with unfavorable cervices to enhance the chances of a vaginal delivery due to suspected macrosomia or "the baby's getting bigger" leads to an increased section rate.

Dr. Joe, I'm hoping that your predicted C/S rate of 60% leads to job security for the 40-something and up males Ob/Gyns on this list :).

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
