I have to agree that docs are not motivated to do sections based on non-medical concerns (except medicolegal, which is likely the biggest driving force).. However, that being said, an elective section may use 24 hrs more of a low acuity postpartum bed, but it will utilize significantly less time in a high acuity LDR. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
