Oh, har. But it does remind me that when my moms give birth to boys, and the dads cut the cord that I usually have my hand over the little bits to protect them from nervous scissors, and tell the dads not to circumsize their sons whilst they're at it...

And speaking of penises and cords... I'm reminded of a birth I did about 2 years ago. I was assisted by a family doc friend of mine, because my partners were at another birth. The baby boy went immediately onto mom's tummy and my buddy immediately threw a blanket over him to dry and warm him. I fished my hand under the blanket to feel the cord pulsations to assess heartrate. I didn't feel a thing (and the baby seemed okay), so was momentarily confused until I realized that I had my fingers on the kid's penis. I whispered, sotto voce, to my friend, who was just beside me, that oops, no wonder I couldn't feel anything pulsing. To which he responded, "Keep your fingers there for much longer and you will..." :-) Good thing I didn't try to clamp it, too.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
