Criminal teaching

Today is Doctor's Day. The day commemorates when Crawford Long first used ether as an anesthetic for a surgical procedure in 1842. He removed a 2cm tumor from the neck, and the patient was so comfortable, that he couldn't believe the tumor was removed. Dr. Long trained his associates and many students in the art and science of anesthesia and surgery. His bill read: "Removal of tumor from neck and ether anesthetic: $2.00 [paraphrased]" I guess low reimbursement rates are not a new thing. Dr. Long's name graces a respected teaching hospital in Atlanta.

In 1933 the AMA proposed this day of recognition for the accomplishments of our profession and the people who uphold its high standards.

I guess I don't deserve this recognition myself because of the anger I feel for that inflammatory and poorly informed poster who should have read the instructions and avoided our list. To my more patient physician colleagues:

Happy Doctors Day

and best wishes and gratitude to all professionals on the list.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
