Re: Peer Review, was SavonarolaFrom: DoctorJoe@aol.comWed Mar 28 12:58:56 2001
In a message dated 3/28/01 10:02:58, clemens@duq.edu writes: << ..In 1498 he was declared guilty of heresy and seditious teaching and sentenced to death. The trial record was sent to Rome, where the sentence was confirmed. Savonarola, with two members of his order, was given up to the secular power. On May 23, 1498, after he had administered the last communion to his two companions and himself, the three were hanged and their bodies burned. >> Exactly like bad peer review. The DOCTORS declare you "guilty" and "give you up" to the hospital ADMINISTRATORS who "hang you" out to dry... and then send your name to the Data Bank to be "burned" into the Internet... (all the while claiming that it was the doctors who evaluated you, since they - administrators - really don't know any medicine). Then the Doctors and Administrators shake hands, have a drink, and talk about their contracts and their stock options... History repeats itself over and over... Joe P.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
