Actually, I did corner the partner who would (most often) start these things - and say we need a GROUP decision here - get as many of us as were there that day and get the discussion going. On an induction like this I (more than once) would be quite successful in getting the doc who started it all to go in the room with me while I delivered the news to the woman and her family that the X number of days of "Negative CST" told us that the baby did not require imminent delivery and therefore we would do whatever the next step was (beyond getting her out of L&D) and stop the "induction"

I also had partners PROMISE a patient that she would be deliverd by that partner... You bet your sweet bippy that I called Dr X in for that delivery.

I also had an occassion to walk in on a day when one other doc was in the OR and everyone else off or out of town - to a patient who was promised (by the doc now in the OR) that I would NOT deliver her. - I insisted that the doc who was "off" (and had seen the patient prenatally after the promise had been made - and knew about it) come in and do the delivery. At subsequent department and group high risk meetings, I would make it clear that we not promise what we can't follow through on and to review inductions with each other etc.

Maybe all this is part of my being told I was "not a team player" and "didn't fit in anymore" ...

I don't feel I sacrificed my own integrity or gave substandard care by standing up to such things. You gotta know its not the politically correct line to walk...

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
