I just did a very quick search on OBGYN.net's Knowledgefinder free Medline search engine and found several references. I'm sure many more could be found by expanding out search through individual articles. I used "squatting in second stage labor alternative birth positions" as my search criteria. There is quite a bit of information on preserving the perineum in the nurse-midwifery literature, which is included on Medline.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
