Joe, you're such an X-Files fan :-)

But you make a good point (not about the alien implant). People too often assume that the point of genetic diagnosis is abortion. We currently have in care a woman whose fetus has a mass of uncertain origin occupying the right hemithorax. She is a fundamentalist Christian, and immediately rejected amniocentesis (by our fetal development clinic people -- MFM and neo) because she equated it w/ pressure for an abortion. However, our MFM doc pointed out to her that amnio could be used to pinpoint diagnosis, and, for example, if she were carrying a fetus w/ a chromosomal abnormality incompatible w/ life, then if the baby crashed during labour, she might avoid an unnecessary section.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
