'The Gynaecologist' QuarterlyFrom: Dr.Naseem Ahmad (dr_naseemahmad@yahoo.com)Sat Feb 24 08:25:36 2001
I am a fellow of the royal college of obgyn. I visit the RCOG forum now an then and I left an appeal on the forum to help me out in my endeavours to make the journal The Gynaecologist Quarterly a success. This may sound odd but the background is taht there is not a single journal on Gynaecology in the whole country (Pakistan) The specialty of obgyn, may I hasten to add, is predominantly occupied by lady gynaecologists and I happen to be one of less than 10 male gynaecologists in the entire country. I have my own private hospital and in early ninetees I used to publish the same journal. At that time the journal was similar to any other research journal and I had some big international names on the editorial board. Unfortunately it had to be stopped due to almost non-existent support from any local gynaecolgist and interestingly I was subjected to a kind of mockery by putting so much effort and finance for no good reason. Recently I changed the set up and converted it into a kind of CME journal. This has generated excellent applause from junior gynaecologists but the senior ones are still sort of opposed to it. Is it not funny. Interestingly I personally bear the expenses and distribute the journal to about 6000 doctors without ant material support from usually so generous pharmaceutical companies. This is a very useful journal and I have completely devoted myself to it. The standard is excellent and it has become a point of prestige and challenge for me to continue it permanently. The RCOG forum I am ashamed to say paid no heed to it despite my plea to contribute to this journal. Recently I was introduced to the obgyn Forum and I am impressed with the enthusiasm and a feeling of espirit de corps among the professinals. I was wondering if having read my woeful tale participants of the Forum would advise me and help me out. I find the participants a lot different to what I find in the RCOG forum. Sorry for taking your time but I hope readers will appreciate my concern. Many thanks Naseem Ahmad MD FRCOG

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
