Re: Palm OS and PrivacyFrom: Griffiths Malcolm (Malcolm.Griffiths@ldh-tr.anglox.nhs.uk)Wed Jan 31 08:03:58 2001
If you carry it around with you it's a little more likely to be mislaid than if it was a great big PC on your desk. I am not sure how secure password facilities are on handhelds, nor how easy some are to guess, nor how universally people set up a password. I wasn't decrying the idea of using handhelds for this (I use a handheld myself) but rather encouraging people to think about the issue. The same considerations hold for my resident who keeps an addressograph label with comments on all of his/our patients in his diary - if the diary falls into the wrong hands there's a confidentiality problem straightaway. -----Original Message----- From: drmiller@aol.com [mailto:drmiller@aol.com] Sent: 31 January 2001 14:29 To: Multiple recipients of list OB-GYN-L Subject: Re: Palm OS and Privacy With that being said, since a handheld is usually in one's personal possession, and might even be password protected (to prevent other personal information from being viewed like private phone numbers), I don't think anybody is going to go after docs who have the vision to carry relatively exposed patient information with them so they can deliver better care to those same patients. ********************************************************************** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they -- are addressed. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
