Failed HSG due to cervical stenosis - any ideas?

I attempted an HSG recently and although the external os appeared
patent, I was unable to advance a uterine sound, nor any small
cervical dilators and thus the procedure was aborted. No hx of
cervical surgery and this is secondary infertility.
Other than having the patient return mid cycle (this was ~day 7) any
suggestions? I have planned cytotec as have read regarding use of
this for D&C. I thought about use of ultrasound to be more aggressive
if needed at next attempt (have done this before for d&c), but doubt
patient would tolerate.
