Does anyone suggest a long, warm bath to help knock out non-productive contractions? As an apprentice midwife I heard my mentor offering this more than a few times, and now offer it as an option to my doula clients (who will often call me about contractions they are having, before calling their doctor's office). I've found (yes, I know this is all anecdotal) that getting mom into the tub for at least 30 minutes, preferably an hour, in warm (no more than 100 deg.) water will often stop non-productive contractions. And if she's really in early labor, things will continue, and then the benefits of laboring in water take over.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
