We've been doing that for about the last eight years. At the time we changed, we had only one ped and didn't want to burn him out anymore than we needed to. Anesthesia was especially concerned at first, but adapted to the change. Really not much different than having RNs assisting for normal vaginal births. Every once in a while unforseen problems occur, like the one I delivered a week ago by C/S for CPD, baby had no problems in labor, but as soon as delivered he was limp, cyanotic and couldn't be ventilated by mask. The anesthesiologist ended up intubating him as the ped was being paged to the hospital. Turned out he had a large diaphragmatic hernia. Yes, Effrain, I did do cord gases, pH - 7.35. >We are considering having PALS or NALS certified RNs attend our "everything

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
