Re: incidental cystotomyFrom: Awogc@aol.comWed Dec 13 11:41:29 2000
I asked one of the local urologists. His answer was keep it in while she is in the hospital, "it can't hurt." He agreed though that it probably isn't much larger than an opening left by a suprapubic tube. I checked the bladder integrity intraop to ensure that the trocar didn't go in one side and out the other. I have used sterile milk in the DR in the past. Lastly, the laceration was in the dome extraperitonially. I have found literature saying these need no repair, but then drainage is recommended for 7-10 days. Ira Bachman, MD, FACOG

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
