Re: How to boost your internet connection and pc ... and other junk mailFrom: Dean G. Huffman (perinatl@slip.net)Wed Dec 13 11:29:08 2000
How appropriate. In the middle of a string about junk mail, OB/GYN.NET gets its own personal junk mail! For those with problems with junk mail, certain internet service providers (ISP's) will filter junk mail for you so that you get much less than you would otherwise. Earthlink is one provider. It has something called the spaminator to do this. It looks at ISP's that specialize in sending out junk mail and, at your request, blocks all such e-mail arising from these sources. You never even see the junk mail. There is no charge. I believe also that services similar to the spaminator can also be purchased over the internet at various sites. The November issue of Boardwatch Magazine <http://www.boardwatch.com/bw/oct/Fable_Contents.htm> has an excellent article about two organizations that look and list spammers <http://www.boardwatch.com/bw/oct/Orbs.htm>, ORBS and MAPS. An excellent spam blocker is American OnLine (AOL -- <http://www.aol.com>), but the reason they block as much spam as possible is so that they can send to their subscribers THEIR OWN SPAM, i.e., advertising, although they do not call it by that name. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
