Had similar experience. One in office is better than none at home. But,
I start at age 40 for routine screens.

Saw a patient last week who had a screening sigmoidoscopy which found
cancer three months after I did a SOB that was negative. I believe the
studies show that up to 50% of lesions are missed by SOB. Thus, I
believe in sigmoid. or colonoscopy.

And, yes, I do detect colon cancer from time to time.

There is a CPT code for SOB. Some of our insurances pay for it and some
do not. If I have the patient send the samples to a clinical
laboratory, the SOB seems to always be covered (even when not covered in
my office).

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
