Re: thrombocytopeniaFrom: Len2976@aol.comWed Nov 29 17:23:19 2000
Several weeks ago we had a patient--32 y/o G4, P2 at 32 weeks who presented to the E.R. with c/o nosebleeds, gums bleeding, and bruising. She had a negative history and had had two prior pregnancies without apparent problems. Both other infants were delivered by C/S. In the E.R. they drew a CBC and platlets were 10,000. We had them transfer her to our referral center which has a Level 3 nursury. We later learned her platlets dropped to 3,000! She received IV platlets, steroids, etc. I understand they delivered her by C/S at 36 weeks--platlets at that time were up to 50,000. She is now one month PP, platlets are 225,000, and she is still on steroids being followed by hematology. Lenora McCall, CNM

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
