Start with Treem, Hepatology 2/94 (assoc with AFLP & LCHAD). Next stop is Rinaldo (per Dr. Copel, Yale, Ob/Gyn net 1996); NEJM 1/97, 336:377-8). Mol markers outlined (E474Q mutations) in NEJM 340:1723-71 (1999). Overview of abnl fatty acid oxidation and sequelae (neonate = SIDS; CNS developmental disturbances, cardiomyopathy, etc) avail from Rinaldo & Bennett, 2/2000 (Crit Rev Clin Lab Sci 37:1-44), which in turn brings us back to Treem (Duke, 10/2000, Curr Op Ped 12:463-8). You might also check the cyberounds site from 9/99 - a summary/review of Mitoch. FAOD (fatty acid oxidation disorders) outlined by Dr. Scaglia from Baylor. If Ya happen to have a copy of the text on Hypertensive Disease in Pregnancy (1999), the folks at Mcgee put together a nice chapter that helps link endothelial dysfunction with fatty acid oxidative stress, as it relates to preecl. disorders. tj.

Please can anyone suggest a good review article on Acute Fatty Liver, written by somebody who knows something about it. The condition may be common in its mild form but it is certainly rare in its severe form in my expereince . I have seen only two cases in a long and eventful career. Textbooks are very little help.

Thank you

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
