Re: CNMs and Water BirthsFrom: ginny lee BSN, GNM (kaupilimakoa@hotmail.com)Fri Nov 3 13:03:35 2000
>Does the Nursing or Midwifery Board prescribe having delivered as a >prerequisite to registration as a Nurse Midwife in your state? Nope, of course not. I didn't mean to imply that you couldn't empathize with a laboring woman because you hadn't experienced labor...simply trying to give you an idea why a woman would choose to labor in the water, since you stated that personally you didn't understand why anyone would want to. Am I a better midwife for having given birth myself? I would like to think so, but we bring many more experiences to each labor/birth--having given birth is only a small fraction of them. aloha, ginny (who does own several pairs of Birkenstocks, but whose bathtub was too small to labor in)

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
