Re: Trich revisitedFrom: Rafael Haciski MD (haciski@earthlink.net)Thu Nov 2 05:16:28 2000
I once had a "resistant" trich infection - she has been treated over many months (probably 1-2 years) by other physicians, with persitant recurrence. After confirming presence of trich on the wet mount, I gave her a course of Flagyl for 10 days, and saw her again at the conclusion of treatment. At that time she was asymptomatic but I again saw the Trich on the wet mount, although in much lower numbers than before. I then placed her on Metrogel for a month, and that seemed to have "cured" her. She did not have any recurrence afterwards. Thus I think this "recurence" is most likely incomplete treatment, for whatever reasons. Solution is to persist until eradication. However, I am not sure how I would handle this in a pregnant patient.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
