I used to love to 'sleep' patients in latent labor. I usually said something like - "if you are really supposed to be in labor then the rest will let you get there - on the other hand if you are not really supposed to be in labor - but are contracting due to exhaustion, then the rest will let you stop having contractions that don't do anything and you can go home and await the real thing." They usually took the medicated sleep!

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit.
