I don't know about Rick, but it has happened to me. When lawyers "aim"
their lawsuit, it resembles a shotgun, not a target rifle. Before I
left the USAF 19 years ago, I was joining a practice across the country.
The OB I was joining had built a new office and placed my name on the
door, prior to my arrival. A patient who delivered a month before I
arrived named me in a suit involving this obstetrician. I was
eventually dismissed, but it took over a year. Even though you know
there is no merit, it still bothers you and consumes your time until it
is gone.
