Our local hospitals seem to be getting more militant also. One local hospital had a standoff with Blue Cross, M.D.s on their staff couldn't schedule elective surgeries. Our hospital had a number of inquiries by physicians who wanted temporary staff privileges so they could continue taking care of their patients. Finally, somebody caved in and an agreement is now in force. On the other hand, now the hospital sponsored IPA that maintains the Health Net contract in our area is reaching an impass and may drop out. The problem is that each insurers want low ball contracts, and yet we see them raising our personal rates and our patients rates by 30-100%. If the IPA accepted Health Net's current proposal, the physicians would be getting 85% of Medi-Cal rates, not even Medicare rates. It reaches a point where enoughs is enough! Its truly unfortunate that physicians can't legally work together to iron out contract issues and better protect ourselves from these societal parasites.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
