Re: Philosophy of scienceFrom: Terrence Jones (Terrence.Jones@kp.org)Thu Oct 26 21:28:59 2000
Somehow these charts seem less important, right now. Zach - Godel's depression was not in response to Hilbert's rebuttal, but instead to the sudden loss of a mentor at the hands of the Nazis. Rather than say "uh-uh" to an uninspired community of local mathemeticians, He made his way with some difficulty (WWII) to the US and assumed a rather prominent professorship at Princeton. Joe - grateful, we are, of Your "modern" spin on the politics involved here. As You say - "so it goes". Dr. Semmelweiss, upon leaving the skeptical and politically intransigent Viennese, returned to Hungary with His understanding of germ theory and appropriate hygeine (hand washing after performing autopsy, prior to assisting with deliveries), and reduced the puerperal fever rate to less than 1%. His contemporaries might not have appreciated Him, but Joseph Lister certainly did. Thankyou both for Your thoughts and let us also be grateful, as the mandarin oranges fill the fruit bowls, that the GI absorpt! ion, and renal tubular reabsorption, of ascorbic acid, are saturable events; less we be arguing the relative merits of Home versus Hospital delivery of oxalate stones. It was mid-October 1998 when the 'father of the internet' Jon Postel, passed away at the young age of 55. His colleagues said: "He was one of the foundations of why the internet exists... Everyone else was getting rich and these guys were trying to keep the infrastructure together" (Brewster Kahle). Jim's last words to our list was in response to Paul's inquiry into yet another SoCal marketing scheme. Fact is, it was just one word - "Politics???" It was like Him to get to the point. No vested interests posing as moral principles. Ya' don't realize just how much...Will miss Ya' dearly babydoc, You were one of the reasons this 'list' exists, and to participate with You was an honor and a joy. tj.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
