ACOG Preventive med guidelines and Hep BFrom: Patti Tessler, Family Nurse Practitioner (tessler@frontiernet.net)Thu Oct 26 12:52:31 2000
Does anyone have a reference that explicitly states that ACOG Primary and Preventive Care: Periodic Assessment guidelines include hepatitis B screening (perhaps under the heading of sexually transmitted diseases)? Hep C screening is recommended explicitly for high risk clients, but Hep B screening is not mentioned. Also, have you had the experience that Hep B screening for clients with a possible risk (e.g. history of multiple sex partners or history of needle drug use) is not covered by private insurance? My office manager advises that clients are not getting coverage for this test unless they have a very specific risk (e.g. recent needlestick or recent diagnosis of sex partner with Hep B). Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences and insights.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
