Once again, I have to point out that there is a HUGE difference between planned home birth with a qualified attendant and unassisted home birth. I cannot find any reason to support or approve of unassisted birth, it is just too high risk. Planned home birth is a much less risky plan and includes prenatal visits lasting 45 min to 1 hour each where the midwife really gets to know clients and can then effectively risk out women to a doctors care when necessary. I also want to point out that we don't have to do a lot of risking clients out because they do it themselves, they understand our scope of practice. We don't have women with high risk pregnancies asking for home birth, they know better. So we are left with healthy low risk women who educate themselves about pregnancy and sign detailed informed choice documents followed by prenatal counseling that prepares couples for what to expect. That makes home birth a valid choice that is safe.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
