They have a respect for the woman's body to not be rushed and tend to spend more time observing their patients, and a very low number of births with anesthesia. They have a fantastic Midwife and OB combination system for low and high risk pregnancies respectively. See this article about the system in the Netherlands for example: http://www.acegraphics.com.au/resource/papers/smulders02.html

And to quote an earlier post called "list" by Cheri Van Hoover, CNM "This is another key issue. Other countries - England, Holland, Canada - have built infrastructures that support choices in site of birth. The U.S. has not. People are biased by their training and experience. Consumers haven't pushed for the infrastructure to be created that would support out-of-hospital birthing because they are not familiar with it. It is outside of our cultural experience. That doesn't mean it is wrong."

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
