Nope, I don't think that's what he is implying...I think the physiology behind the phenomenon is the same involved when a women is suddenly able to urinate when confronted with the possibility of catheterization...something experienced labor nurses have probably all witnessed. If you have a woman whose strength is flagging, she may often summon up that little oomph when confronted with the possibility of assisted delivery. FYI, forceps are not used to RIP the baby out...rather they are used in conjunction with the maternal expulsive effort. I have seen forcep delivered babies with nary a mark... what is your experience with assisted delivery?
