Its not just in the UK, Carlos. In the state of California, anytime a patient is mentally handicapped and under the supervision of a conservator, the court has to authorize any procedure that is potentially sterilizing. I've had to get court orders to allow removal of cysts and hysterectomies for uterine cancer.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
