Alternative medicine commentaryFrom: Zach Newton (zbnewton@mindspring.com)Sat Sep 16 07:56:45 2000
Below is a sardonic quote taken from a financial forum. Could it be that the boom in spending seen in alternative medicine is reflective of overall wealth effect and discretionary spending that has driven the New Economy? The phrase "delusional optimism" cuts a wide swath across many of the issues discussed on this list in regard to expectations of the public at large. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "The alternatoid medicine mania is much like the stock market mania. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Both manias are driven by incessant promotion by corrupt, incompetent ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- and sociopathic media. Both are fueled by delusional optimism and herdlike behavior of the masses. Both are part of a millennium inspired madness, with the go-go nineties New Age momentum only now starting to decelerate. New Age medicine will die with New Age economics. The alternatoid medicine bubble will burst along with the stock market bubble and the onset of stagflation when the incredible waste of indulging in alternatoid medicine fantasies becomes intolerable."

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
