One Quick Question (regarding 'shadowing' doctors)

Everyone:

You have been so helpful with all of your feedback that I wanted to ask you just one more thing, if you don't mind. Dr. D. Ashley Hill: I saw in one of your replies that you sometimes allow "aspiring physicians" to "shadow" you on call days. Do you know if other OB/GYN allow this, as well? The minute I saw that, I wrote a letter to my own OB/GYN to see if she'd allow me to observe her. I am a bit hesitant to send it, though, because although she is absolutely wonderful, I'd be kind of embarrassed if I'm asking too much. What do you think? Also, when students "shadow" you, what kinds of things do they do or observe? Do the patients mind? I would absolutely LOVE the opportunity to go "behind the scenes" this early on. (I do volunteer at hospitals, but I really don't get to see much action, and I definitely can't communicate with the physicians like this would allow me to). Thank you all so much for your input! Alexandra :)

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
