Re: Would you do it again? Thank you for your responses! From: Alexandra (almostdralex@obgyn.net)Fri Aug 25 12:49:16 2000
I would like to thank everyone who shared their "insight into the world of obstetrics and gynecology". :) I think that just from reading various postings on this sight, I get more realistic glimpses into the profession than just what my pre-med professors tell me to expect. I really had no idea that lawsuits were so rampant in OB/GYN today. I suppose it makes sense, though, because the general American public jumps at the chance to sue anyone for just about anything. I can imagine that this adds a lot of unnecessary stress, not to mention spending $85,000 a year on insurance alone! Wow. However, along with the malpractice suits, you've reaffirmed all of the positive things that go along with the job. Many of you mentioned that it is one of the few specialties in medicine where you get to deliver babies, provide direct care to both adolescent and adult women, and even perform surgery. I think it would be the greatest honor to be entrusted with the lives of both a mother and her child. I know that it will be a long, hard road, and it will be stressful and sometimes trying, but I hope that one day soon I'll be able to practice medicine in this field. Thank you so much for your help. Alexandra

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
