Re: "routine" prenatal visit LONG of courseFrom: Braun, R. Daniel (rbraun@iupui.edu)Mon Aug 21 16:11:31 2000
How many of those positive dips have you checked with a catheterized culture to see if they really have Asymptomatic Bacteriuria. I would wager that the majority of them have leukocytes from vaginal contamination. In fact if they are ASB, they will not have leukocytes only bacteria in their urine. A clean catch midstream in a pregnant lady is of value only if it is totally negative. To collect a CCMS, a female requires three hands, one on each labia and one to hold the cup. None of my patients have that many and I have yet been able to persuade a nurse to assist them in the collection of the sample. The literature only supports testing for proteinuria. R. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
