The original article is "Active management of labor as an alternative to cesarean section for dystocia." Obstet Gynecol 1984; 63; 485-490; by K O'Driscoll, M Foley and D. MacDonald. There are several more recent articles, including one in the NEJM from ~1996.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit.
