Re: TVT and voiding dysfunctionFrom: Joanne Bulley, MD (jbulley@cheshire.net)Sat Jul 29 06:46:38 2000
Yes, the psychological overlay is as important as you say, Steve. It has been a while and I never researched it, but one urologist I worked with commented on this exact problem. He mentioned that it was often associated with sexual dysfunction and/or prior abuse. As I thought about it, this made a lot of sense to me. We have known for some time that pelvic pain often is the result of these issues and it is logical (to me) that other pelvic floor dysfunctions - such as urinary retention - would be related as well. Always investigate fully - even when it "seems obvious" and the patient wants something done "right now"... Joanne

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
