Daniel Subject: Re: Can anyone identify the forceps? Additional note: I concur with the identification as Hunter's forceps. I missed these in my perusal of Das (page 557, fig. 661). James Brandbridge Hunter graduated at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New York . According to Das, he initially studied in Europe, intending to become an ophthalmologist. On returning to NY he interned at Women's Hospital and apparently began to practice obstetrics / gynecology . He was a Fellow of the American Gynecologic Society and "devised a number of useful instruments and appliances". He died in 1889, "almost in the prime of life". As noted, the original manufacturer of the forceps was Tiemann. jpog md

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
