Re: 6 wk check upFrom: RModugno@aol.comSat Jul 22 07:39:01 2000

I've heard some are having the patient back at 1 year from the first prenatal exam for the pap. Very inconvenient for the patient who must miss work, wait for the doc etc.... Just wondering what the standard of practice is these days? Does ACOG have a list of global services to be provided in pre/postnatal care? I haven't checked in a while. Jay >> Here's the deal, Jay: If a patient comes back for their postpartum exam, and a pap smear is done, and it's less than one year from their previous pap smear - then the patient's MCO will most likely not pay for that smear. Therefore, it has been my experience that an appointment is scheduled following the postpartum exam to insure that the smear is taken one year from the previous pap. I guess we're just sick and tired of not being paid for the work we do and therefore have to resort to this type of "game playing". Robert Modugno MD MBA FACOG Marietta, GA

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
