I work at a small level 1 hospital. Our OB patients meet with one of the anesthesiologists during their last 6 weeks of pregnancy. Doc does the preanesthesia checklist, answers questions and gets the permit signed. Paperwork is sent to L&D and attached to the pts chart. It's easy to accomplish since our practice is small and our office is in the hospital. The patients can just stop by the out patient waiting room and ask if an anesthesiologist is available for epidural consult. Supposedly, a patient can't get an epidural if this paperwork isn't done prior to labor. All but one doc will do them anyway.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
